Le Clos Montaugé or Château Pradelle
Clos Montaugé, located in the village of Virsac, hamlet of Pradelle, is a charming property that belonged to the de Montaugé family in the 18th century.
Around 1770, Antoine de Montaugé, equerry and capitoul of Toulouse before 1760, owned the property. He gave his name to the street that runs in front of the château.
The château was never a noble house, but a simple bourgeois home. Traces of the Montaugé family were lost after the French Revolution to the Roulin de Comarque family. Pierre Paul Roulin de Comarque (1752-1818), a captain from Blaye and knight of the Royal Order of Saint-Louis, owned the estate during the Restoration.
It would appear that the Roulin de Comarque family sold the property under the July Monarchy to the family of Pierre Bertin (1832-1901). Bertin undertook restoration work on the house, including the present-day façade. He gave the house the appearance we know today.
His wife, Marie Bertin, née Milhade (1835-1915), granddaughter of Arnaud Prévost, deputy mayor of Virsac and great-granddaughter of Michel Brisset, mayor of Virsac, continued her husband's business, assisted by her daughter Anne Léa Berlureau (1856-1925). This lady had several children, including Daniel Berlureau, a priest who used to spend his vacations in Virsac.
Since the 1970s, the house has changed owners again and again. It was owned by the Couécou family, a wine merchant, whose son Didier was a footballer and then coach of the Girondins de Bordeaux in the 1990s.
Pradelle has always had a small, renowned vineyard, well ranked in the "Féret" wine directory
"Féret". The 1889 Féret mentions: "Château Pradelles (Bertin fils) 8 barrels of red and 25 of white" It is no longer found in subsequent editions.

The property is beautiful and rustic, with all the rural French charm we hoped for. The rooms are well decorated and the bathrooms feel luxury. There is plenty of space for everyone to commune comfortably. The kitchen is large and well equipped.
David was kind enough to stock up on bread, croissants and handy bits for our arrival. He even offered to stock some dog food for our dogs. The pool and gardens are beautiful, with plenty of space for the dogs to run around.
The location was perfect for what we needed. The villa is within a 30 minute drive of both Bordeaux and the historic town Saint Emilion and its vineyards. There are lots of shops nearby for provisions.
We highly recommend this venue.
Thank you for a gorgeous holiday!"
